BLYNC LDN TURNS THREE
BLYNC LDN was incorporated on the 8th March 2021. This also happens to be International Women’s Day - a happy coincidence for this female founded business!
To celebrate our third birthday and International Women’s Day, we had our founders, Bethan Trussell & Lucy Beaumont, answer some questions about BLYNC LDN, their journey to launching, and the ethos behind what we do.
Q: What inspired you to create BLYNC LDN?
Beth: We created BLYNC LDN during Covid when getting outside was limited to one walk a day. It was during this time we realised the importance of getting outdoors and moving our bodies for, not just our physical health, but also our mental health. We wanted to create a brand that encourages people to live a healthy lifestyle. By creating high quality, performance activewear, we believe we are providing the tools for this.
Lucy: We were also motivated to create a brand centred around sustainability. We know we won’t be able to save the planet single handedly, but we want to be able to create something that can at least help be part of the solution.
Q: What were you doing before BLYNC LDN?
Beth: I previously worked in the finance department of a soft drinks company. I believe I've utilised these skills in my transition to owning a fashion company. I’m actively engaged in managing the financial aspects of the business.
Lucy: I was also working in finance at a large accountancy firm up in London, so myself and Beth have very similar backgrounds.
Q: What was the most challenging aspect of creating a business?
Beth: Having no experience in the fashion industry. This industry is amazing, but it is fast paced and complicated for newbies. To be able to create a new and exciting brand, there is so much that goes into your collection before it can be sold; design, development, samples, and getting to grips with this process was extremely tricky. We also decided to start our business during Covid, when lead times for production went from around 4 weeks to 26 weeks, which in turn messed up any timelines we had been working towards.
Q: What was your favourite part of the process in launching BLYNC LDN?
Lucy: It’s hard to narrow it down to just one thing. I personally live in activewear, so it has been amazing being able to create a collection that I love from scratch - I’m constantly wearing our clothing! I also really enjoy meeting lots of different people. We have a great relationship with our factory in Portugal and it’s been great going out there to meet the team. It’s also amazing doing all of this with a close friend!
Q: Why was sustainability so important to you when launching BLYNC LDN?
Beth: I found it alarming hearing all the negative statistics regarding sustainability in the fashion industry. For example, the fashion industry counts for 10% of global carbon emissions. This is mad! We knew we wanted to create a brand that encourages a healthy lifestyle, but we were also passionate about not contributing to the already significant environmental problem.
Lucy: If people are going to be continuing to buy activewear, then we wanted to create a brand that had sustainability at the core, to encourage fewer purchases of higher quality, sustainable products. By choosing our products over fast fashion alternatives, consumers are reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill. Our first range has prevented 724kg of waste going into landfill, which we’re very proud of. Not only this, but because we have high quality products, they are durable and will last longer than cheaper alternatives, meaning customers will have to buy new products less often.
Q: What are your aspirations for BLYNC LDN?
Beth: We have high aspirations! We want to create the best activewear brand for men and women and we want to create a brand that people can trust for quality.
